Author Guidelines

1. Manuscript Types

We accept the following categories of submissions:

  • Research Articles (4,000–8,000 words): Original theoretical or empirical studies.

  • Review Articles (up to 8,000 words): Critical syntheses of existing literature.

  • Case Studies / Practice Reports (3,000–6,000 words): Practice-led insights in design/art.

  • Visual Essays or Creative Works: With a supporting text (1,000–2,000 words).

  • Short Communications / Commentary (1,000–2,500 words): Concise reflections or responses.

All word counts include references, notes, and figure/table captions.

2. Manuscript Formatting

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, concise English. Use either American or British spelling consistently.

  • File Format: Submit manuscripts as Microsoft Word (.docx).

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, double-spaced.

  • Structure:

    • Title

    • Abstract (200–300 words)

    • Keywords (4–6)

    • Introduction

    • Methods / Approach

    • Results / Findings

    • Discussion

    • Conclusion

    • References

    • Acknowledgments (if any)

    • Ethics Statement (if any)

    • Conflict of Interest Statement

3. References

Use APA 7th edition style for all in-text citations and reference lists. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all references.

4. Figures and Tables

  • All figures and tables must be numbered and captioned clearly.

  • Submit images in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi), preferably in JPEG or TIFF format.

  • Indicate figure/table placement within the manuscript text.

5. Ethical Considerations

Authors conducting research involving human participants, especially in fields related to design for health, psychology, or social behavior, must:

  • State that informed consent was obtained.

  • Include an ethics approval number and institutional review board (IRB) name in the Methods section.

  • Follow ethical principles outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki (https://www.wma.net/what-we-do/medical-ethics/declaration-of-helsinki/).

  • If the study doesn't require ethical approval or consent procedures, authors need to provide the exemption statement obtained from the ethics committee.

6. Availability of Data and Materials

The journal is committed to facilitating openness, transparency and reproducibility of research, and has the following research data sharing policy.

Subject to appropriate ethical and legal considerations, authors are encouraged to:

Share your research data in relevant public data repositories, including a data availability statement linked to your data.

If it is not possible to share your data, we encourage you to consider using the statement to explain why it cannot be shared.

7. Funding

Please supply all details required by your funding and grant-awarding bodies as follows:

For single agency grants
This work was supported by the [Funding Agency] under Grant [number xxxx].
For multiple agency grants
This work was supported by the [Funding Agency #1] under Grant [number xxxx]; [Funding Agency #2] under Grant [number xxxx]; and [Funding Agency #3] under Grant [number xxxx].

8. Declaration of Competing Interest

Corresponding authors, on behalf of all the authors of a submission, must disclose any financial and personal relationships with other people or organizations that could inappropriately influence (bias) their work. Examples of potential conflicts of interest include employment, consultancies, stock ownership, honoraria, paid expert testimony, patent applications/registrations, and grants or other funding. If there is no conflict of interest, please state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."

9. Acknowledgements

In this section you can acknowledge any support given which is not covered by the author contribution or funding sections. This may include administrative and technical support, or donations in kind (e.g., materials used for experiments).

10. Submission Process

All manuscripts must be submitted through the journal's online submission system. First-time users must register. The corresponding author will receive all notifications and decisions.

11. Review Process

Submitted manuscripts are subject to double-blind peer review. Authors must ensure that all identifying information (names, affiliations, funding) is removed from the main file. A separate title page with full author details should be uploaded.

12. Open Access & Copyright

This journal operates under a CC BY 4.0 license. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right to publish the article online and in print. An Article Processing Charge (APC) may apply. See Open Access Policy for details.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
